Conversations with Helayna

H - Did you know 5 + 5 +10?

Did you know 1 + 1 = 2?

 Did you know 2 + 2 = 4?

Did you know 9 is more than 8?

Did you know 2 is more than 1?

And then a new concept came up -

G - Did you know 3 is less than 4?

H - Does less than mean smaller?

G - Yes, it does.

H - Is 9 less than 10?

G - Yes, it is.

H - Did you know 6 is less than 7?

Did you know 3 is less than 4?

Did you know 11 is less than 12?

And on and on and on it went!  She has a new fascination - it's marvelous - and it makes me smile!

  1. Ah, that's priceless. It's amazing how quickly she figures things out. That's a pretty amazing conversation to have with an almost four year old.

  2. This is wonderful, Crystal. It's so important for children to form relationships with numbers (and letters)--so they feel a sense of ownership. It helps them to not be afraid of math and spelling. Victor has been having a lot of word conversations lately, much like this one. XO

  3. I LOVE when you can see those little brains working away - how the eyes light up as they realize they understand some strange concept you have introduced to them!! It makes me marvel every time.
